Oil & Gas Well and Reservoir Data Scanning, Digitizing, and Archiving

Introduction::

Since the beginning of well log acquisition, data was kept in analogue form till late seventies of the last century. Today we live in what so called digital era; were almost everything is acquired and processed and stored in digital format using sophisticated software which accept data in digital format only. So not just old data need to be digitized, even recently acquired data that has lost its digital form media has to be digitized.

Digitizing:

The digitized process by itself has gone through process of development; it started by digitizing tables and curves to reach today human interface with digitizing software on computer screen through the following stages:-

  • Scanning of well logs data (Paper or Film)
  • Load images on software
  • Setup digitizing parameters (scales, curves, tracks .etc)
  • Run automatic curve tracing
  • Correct and guide software at difficult areas
  • Output first version of LAS or other formats
  • Load data into log editing software for final QC and input header information.
  • Plot digital data on new print for overlay with original log
  • Output final LAS or other formats

Before scanning of well logs physical inspection of data on paper or film is important to
carryout any treatment needed and scanning parameters suitable for each case.

GTC GLOBAL performs the following:

  • Convert(digitized) paper log to digital log within 2 hours, faster than any other well log Digitizer in the market
  • Work on large or small orders for rush or long term digitizing
  • Guarantee high quality Service with 100% customer satisfaction
  • Use automated digitizing software to digitize and automated tracing well log
  • Quality Control of the data through digitization software that has an efficient "Automatic Match Function"
  • Deliver well-logging data in standard LAS format or any other required format.

GTC GLOBAL provides the Highest Quality & The best Well Log Digitizing Services with our automated Digitizing Software we developed. The software can precisely and effectively trace well-logging curves within two hours per well log. We deliver accurate digital well-logging data in standard LAS format or other formats if required.

GTC GLOBAL also accommodate order large and small, rush or long term for well-logging digitizing service for petroleum industry in the most cost-effective and productive manner available to the industry.

All the digitizing is performed under rigorous, proprietary quality control procedures, and delivers accurate digital well log data in standard LAS format or in your preferred format. Users can easily download the data and begin working with it immediately.

Well Log Data Scanning:

GTC GLOBAL has a program to digitally scan paper copies of well logs using a scanning device designed specifically for this application. Well logs is later converted to digital form in two basic formats-vector and raster. The most common file format used for vector digital logs is the Log ASCII Standard (LAS). As for Raster-format digital logs that are simply images of the logs from a scanner, is usually stored in TIF format.

Well Log Data Normalization:

Normalization techniques best suited to some logging data. For example; SP, Gamma Ray, Acoustic, Density, Neutron and few Resistivity curves. The best normalization approaches is to convert count-rate neutron curves to reliable porosities, deal with data sets that contain diverse types of tools, and handle run changes.

Handling compaction differences will help in avoiding over-correcting the data, better handling normalization efficiently, and curve Normalization. The objective of normalization is to adjust certain curves in each well so that they register similar values in the similar rock types. Normalization eliminates the effects of different borehole conditions (mud weight, hole size, etc.), different logging companies and/or poor well site calibrations. For example, Neutron logs in counts/second are rescaled to rock porosity units. The normalization procedure is necessary for accurate mapping of oil and gas fields.

Sometimes, the raw log data from the field tapes may contain meaningless data, such as resistivity, porosity log data or others, below the first reading or some kinds of data recorded in the casing from open hole logging tools. It may also contain misleading data, such as Noise Spikes or Cycle skips on the Acoustic, porosity log data in washed-out zones and high frequency data on the SP curve.

Well Log Data Quality Check & Interpretation:

Our GTC GLOBAL experts are ready to QC all the acquired data; open and cased hole data. The quality checking of the data includes the following:

  • Validity of the data
  • Checking of the repeat section and viability
  • Checking the presence or absence of curves
  • Headers and remarks from the field engineer
  • Compatibility of all different logging tools data
  • Comparison with the nearby wells
  • Checking of the benchmarks formations
  • Validity of the processed data
  • Full data interpretation

Seismic Data Digitization:

GTC GLOBAL has the ability in full capacity to digitize Seismic data. We digitize the old and new seismic data

With the following capacity:

  • Seismic Digital Conversion of hard copy data (seismic film and paper plots)
    to industry standard SEG-Y
  • 2-D Kirchhoff Time Migration using Promax
  • Tape Conversion (SEG-D) to SEG-Y
  • Scanning Geological and Geophysical reports and logs to PDF and
other electronic formats for bookmaking and simplified navigation.
  • Customized database development to derive the benefits of user interfaces and
consolidated data for queries and reporting.
  • Geo-referencing using ESRI and Blue Marble

Data Archiving:

Databases usually have two things in common; they have grown far larger than envisioned by their creators and they are filled with unneeded data. Many companies are seeking to pare them down to the essentials and archive little used content. GTC GLOBAL provide your company with full archiving system with best practices applied.

Data is managed and archived for life cycle management. With GTC GLOBAL latest layer technology, we maintain transparent "read-only" access to archive data while ensuring data integrity to be relationally intact, even after any upgrades. The archived data is highly stable and streamlined performance that leads to higher productivity and a positive impact.

GTC GLOBAL team organizes Well Log Data archiving into four fundamental steps of collation, processing, transferring and storage. After the completion of the archiving, the verified raw (open & cased hole data), will be further edited and spliced if required (Production logging, Monitoring data, Full open hole data, LWD / MWD, Seismic, etc.) data is always available to retrieve in over the Hole Depth (MD). Composite files are supplied in Measured Depth (MD) and True Vertical Depth Sub Sea (TVDSS). All recoverable raw log data (including repeat sections) is archived in DLIS format copied to the specified media and loaded into the corporate database. We also Quality-check composite and hybrid log data. The DLIS format copied to the specified media are loaded into the Company well log database. Scanned images of original raw log data and interpretation films/prints in compressed TIFF format are copied to the specified media as well.
